Meet Mel

Hi, I’m Melanie. I was born and live in Regina, Saskatchewan, Treaty 4 Territory and Métis homeland. I am a Métis woman, mother, educator, and I love learning, hearing people’s stories and I take an interest in creative arts.

I graduated from Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP) at the University of Regina. For several years, I worked in human service roles supporting First Nations and Metis programs and education initiatives. as a teacher, facilitator, policy advisor and consultant. I received an Indigenous Communication Arts diploma from the First Nations University of Canada and worked  in communication positions.

I am currently working on completing my Master’s in Educational Psychology (counselling). I have always been passionate about giving back to my community and helping others in whatever way I can. My approach is person-centered, culturally responsible and sensitive and trauma-informed. As a lifelong learner, I am developing and am open to evolving and meeting individual’s goals, needs and preferences.

I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching movies, listening to music and travelling.

Mel is completing her Masters practicum with This Human Thing, and will be able to see individual clients (children and teens) until the end of March 2023. If you are interested in working with Mel during this time, please send an e-mail to
