Pre-Teen Therapeutic Book Club

Our first ever book club for kids! This one is for pre-teens ages 10-13. The next book in our Therapeutic Book Club is called “Fish in a Tree” by Lynda Mullaly Hunt.

“Fish In a Tree” offers an empowering story about grit and conquering life’s challenges. It is a story of finding confidence in who you are and not allowing negative labels to define you. In this book club, we do more than just read and share thoughts about the book. Instead, we use the book to guide a group therapy process, diving into common elements of the pre-teen experience (such as anxiety, labeling, friendships, self-esteem, etc.) and focus on supporting kids to build a positive self-concept. We offer practical skills and tools to support mental health.

While we still get together and read a book (like a traditional book club), we also use the book to do deeper personal work.

We apply the content to our own experiences. We share in circle and small groups, write, make art, and engage in somatic work, with the intention of deepening the learnings – moving it from our head into our heart and body.
